Be warned of fridge scam

ALEXANDRA – Residents conned by a fridge fix and pay later arrangement.

Alex residents are warned against a scam by a gang who promises to fix fridges and be paid later.

Democratic Alliance proportional representative councillor Shadrack Mkhonto said a woman of Ext 7 was allegedly conned by a gang who knocked on her door and asked for any disused or faulty fridges which required fixing.

“They dupe residents with the offer to fix and pay later arrangement and disappear once they receive the fridges,” Mkhonto said, adding that the warning was also conveyed to the residents through the local radio station.

He said the gang have not been traced as yet.

Spokesperson for Alex Police Station, Captain Allie Kodisang urged residents to always report criminal offences.
