ALEXANDRA – Uber driver recovers car afteralleged beating.

An Uber driver from Diepsloot, who fell victim to an alleged hijacking, recovered his motor vehicle hours after the incident took place at Marlboro Gautrain Station.

Spokesperson for Alex Police Station, Captain Allie Kodisang said police are investigating a case of robbery and assault with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm.

The victim was sitting in the parked vehicle at 8.30pm on 27 October when he observed a suspect allegedly deflating one of his vehicle’s tyres. When he got out to check, the suspect with two armed accomplices allegedly confronted him. They forced him back into the vehicle, sandwiched him in the back seat and drove around the area for about 10 minutes.

In the process, they searched him and took his cellphone and forced him to face downwards. They stopped at an unknown location and left him in the vehicle.

As the victim got out to escape, he ran towards the suspects. They caught, assaulted and forced him back into the vehicle which they again drove around for about two hours before dropping him off at a Marlboro garage where he found a police officer who took him to report the incident at Alex Police Station.

The vehicle was later found abandoned on 9th avenue.

The victim sustained injuries to the head from allegedly being beaten with the barrel of the gun.
