Caught in the act of rape

ALEXANDRA – A rapist, caught in the act, awaits trial.

A suspect, said to be involved in gang-raping a woman, was arrested at the crime scene and is due in court soon after the investigation has been concluded.

The incident occurred at midnight on 28 October in an alley between 4th and 5th avenues.

Police spokesperson, Captain Allie Kodisang said as the police arrived, the victim held onto the suspect as he tried to escape and the police then arrested him. The victim, who claimed to have been drunk, said she was walking alone, after visiting a relative on 5th Avenue to her 4th Avenue home when the suspect and six others grabbed and pushed her to the ground.

They pulled her into the alley and one of them shut her mouth with his hand as she cried and screamed. All of them allegedly took turns in raping her repeatedly with condoms, while pinning her down. Later on, the accomplices, who are at large, left and the suspect continued raping her, causing her to scream from the pain which attracted the police. She grabbed onto the suspect as he tried to escape, resulting in his arrest. The accomplices also took her Samsung tablet worthy R1 200.
