Three men are on the run after being chased by security company officers from Savika Armed Response on Friday.
According to senior manager of the security company, Ravi Jiwuth, security officers patrolling in Sunninghill noticed a gold Toyota Etios in the area and decided to inspect it.
“When our officers were about to get to the car, one man came out and pointed a gun at them,” Jiwuth said.
He added the officers noticed that the two other passengers were armed.
“The officers slowly walked back and the suspects fled the scene.”
Jiwuth said back-up was called and the men were chased into Alex.
“Unfortunately, the suspects drove into River Park and we lost them.”
No injuries were reported.
An earlier report said it was alleged the suspects committed a robbery in Alex but this does not seem to be the case. Jiwuth believed that the security guards distracted the men from performing any robberies.
“We noticed that the registration number, which is a fake duplicate, was linked to a number of robberies in the Sandton area.”
He said the registration number used on the vehicle was actually registered under a white BMW belonging to another person who is not affiliated to the suspects.
He said it was only a matter of time before the perpetrators were caught.
Alexandra police spokesperson Captain Allie Kodisang was unavailable to comment on the incident at this time.

Alex News has received information that security guards are in pursuit of armed suspects, believed to be driving a gold Toyota Etios.
According to information received, the suspects were involved in a crime incident in Alexandra.
It is believed that the suspects are headed towards Bedfordview.
