Police spokesperson Captain Allie Kodisang said the seven-year-old was raped at her 4th Avenue home on 7 October during the morning. Her stepdad rushed home from work after he was called by a neighbour and took her to the Alex Clinic and later to the police to report the matter.

It is said the suspect joined the victim while she was walking home after buying vetkoek from a street vendor. He asked for her name and where she lived, and when she didn’t respond, he kept walking with her.

When she turned into her home, the suspect forced himself in despite the child’s protests. He allegedly forced her onto a bed, undressed her and raped her. Also, he is said to have taken R200 in cash from a wallet that was in the house. The child went to inform the neighbour who called the dad.

The 14-year-old was informed of her rape by a doctor at the Alex Clinic where she was taken for treatment after reporting pain in her womb and a headache.

She had been walking home at 7pm on 5 October when two suspects allegedly followed her, grabbed her and covered her nose and mouth with a cloth doused in a chemical that knocked her unconscious. She awoke hours later in a strange place in 17th Avenue, in pain, and went to an uncle who took her to her mother. Both took her to the clinic and thereafter went to report it at the police station.

For the two suspects arrested for unspecified rape cases, Kodisang said they will appear in court when the investigation is concluded.
