Arrested for R100 bribe in Alex

ALEXANDRA – Taxi driver arrested for R100 bribe.

A taxi driver nabbed for negligent driving worsened his woes when he allegedly attempted to bribe police officers who were taking him to Alex Police Station.

Spokesperson for the station, Captain Allie Kodisang said patrolling police officers were walking at an intersection on Lenin Drive, East Bank, when they stopped the driver of a Toyota Quantum who was driving on the wrong side of the road.

When asked for a driver’s licence, the suspect instead produced an ID document leading to his arrest.

As they were taking him to the station, he allegedly apologised, offered the officers R100 bribe and asked to be released. The measly bribe compounded by his reckless driving offence and failure to produce a driver’s licence will soon see the suspect in court.
