UPDATE: Two men on the run after alleged hijacking

ALEXANDRA – Two men who allegedly robbed two paramedics and a patient are still on the run.

Two men are still on the run after allegedly hijacking an ambulance on 2nd Avenue in Alex on 10 October.

According to Alexandra Police Station spokesperson, Captain Allie Kodisang, two paramedics were transporting a patient to Alex Clinic when two men approached them and allegedly demanded their personal belongings.

“Their wallets and cellphones were taken and they were left in the middle of the street with the patient. The men fled the scene with the ambulance,” Kodisang said.

A case of robbery and hijacking is under investigation.

Kodisang said two paramedics and the patient were transported to the police station by another ambulance.

City of Johannesburg’s Emergency Management Services spokesperson, Robert Mulaudzi said this was the second time an ambulance was hijacked in Alex.

“Right now most of our crew members are traumatised. These kinds of incidents are creating panic and fear for our emergency services personnel who are supposed to render [these] essential services,” Mulaudzi said.
