UPDATE: Classes resume at CJC

ALEX - Classes resume at the Central Johannesburg College Alex campus after teachers are paid.

Classes resumed at the Central Johannesburg College Alex campus on 10 October following a strike by staff members who claimed they were not paid what they were worth.

Financial officer at the campus, Vongani Chauke said not all staff members were paid what was due to them.

“Only a few staff members were paid – not all of them – the amount that was due to them,” Chauke said.

However, the wellbeing of the students is a priority to the striking staff members and classes had to resume.

“We have decided to continue with classes because the students are our number one priority and we have to make sure that they are fully prepared for the exams.”

Chauke said lecturers have committed their time to put in extra hours to help students with preparations for the exams.

“[You know,] money is not the only issue here. The way the principal conducted himself during this ordeal was uncalled for and escalated the issue.”

Exams are set to begin on 23 October and Chauke was confident that no disturbances will occur.
