#ICYMI: Man caught on CCTV defrauding friend of cash

ALEXANDRA – Friend allegedly defrauds victim of cash.

 

A suspect who was identified through CCTV footage allegedly defrauding a friend of R1 305 through alcohol purchase and cash withdrawals is under police investigation.

Spokeperson for Alex Police Station, Captain Allie Kodisang said the incident occurred between 2pm and 4pm on 7 September at the Pick n Pay in Pan Africa Mall.

A witness confirmed seeing the suspect searching and taking the victim’s bank card from his pocket while he was intoxicated and later taking him to his residence.

After dropping off the victim, the suspect allegedly made a purchase at the supermarket and then made cash withdrawals at the ATM. The victim then received a cellphone message for the purchase and immediately after he received a second message of a R500 withdrawal and later, another withdrawal of R700. He searched for the card and found it missing. The witness then told him of the friend stealing the card.

The victim went to check at the supermarket and was shown the CCTV footage of his friend purchasing Hunters Gold beer and retrieving the cash.

It is not known as yet whether the suspect has been arrested or not.
