Move faster to restore power, urges City manager

JOBURG – Johannesburg City manager Dr Ndhiboniswani Lukhwareni lashes out at City Power.

Johannesburg City manager Dr Ndhiboniswani Lukhwareni has lashed out at City Power for taking too long to restore power in the inner city.

Lukhwareni was speaking to more than 300 City officials who were attending a learning session on the Integrated Development Plan.

The learning session was held at the City’s new council chamber which was almost filled to capacity on 13 September.

The inner city has been without electricity for almost two weeks due to underground tunnel cable theft which led to a total shutdown of businesses in the city centre for 10 days.

Lukhwareni said it was unacceptable that a big city such as Joburg can be without electricity for more than two weeks.

“Where are those big generators you were using in Alexandra and Tsutsumani during the load shedding crisis a year ago? This is unacceptable and contrary to our motto to service our communities with pride,” Lukhwareni said.

Lukhwareni unpacked the approved 2017/18 plan to the City officials and urged them to ensure that promises that were made to residents of Johannesburg materialise through efficient service delivery.
