Three attempted murders including a policeman

ALEXANDRA – Attempted murder victim hospitalised and officers evade hijackers' bullets in same week.

 

Alex police are investigating two alleged attempted murder cases, which occurred separately and involved a victim who was hospitalised and the other, was of police officers who arrested one of the suspects they were pursuing.

Police spokesperson, Captain Allie Kodisang said the incidents occurred week ending 3 September. The young male victim was taken in a critical condition to the Edenvale Hospital after an alleged attack with bricks by three suspects, two of whom are known.

The victim’s mother was alerted to the attack at 9pm on 26 August and went to the scene where she tried but failed to stop the suspects who were demanding a laptop from her son. When she told the suspects where the laptop was, they dragged the victim to the place while still hitting him. After taking the laptop, they disappeared. The boy’s mother hired a vehicle which took the victim to the hospital.

The attempted murder of the officers occurred at 10pm on 30 August during a high-speed vehicle chase through the streets of Alex. The officers were patrolling when they spotted two suspects driving a Chevrolet vehicle, reported hijacked earlier in Lyndhurst.

When waved down, the suspects sped off resulting in the chase. They also shot at the officers who returned fire forcing the suspect to abandon the vehicle but still shooting back as they ran away on foot.

One injured suspect was apprehended and taken to hospital for treatment under police guard. The vehicle was taken to the Aeroton police pound for fingerprinting and safe keeping as the investigation continues.
