Alex’s spinning hijacker nabbed in Zebetiele

ALEXANDRA – Alex hijacker nabbed after a high-speed chase on a rural Limpopo road.

 

A man who stole a car in Alex went to his hometown to show off his acquisition but was arrested instead.

Tebogo Maluleke (23) admitted before Magistrate Renier Boshoff to hijacking a BMW from its owner at gunpoint at 8pm on 25 July as he was about to park at his Alex home. He drove the vehicle to his former school in Zebetiele in Limpopo resulting in a high-speed chase with the police, was remanded in custody by the Alex Magistrates’ Court pending sentencing.

The vehicle owner, who seemingly resisted the hijacking, was overpowered when Maluleke was assisted by a group of men who arrived at the scene in another vehicle.The gang then drove off in both vehicles.

The following morning, Maluleke took the vehicle for a spin at the school’s sports grounds, attracting the school principal who called the police. When they arrived he had left, but they spotted the vehicle at a shopping centre.

As they approached him he sped off, prompting a chase which led out of town and onto dirt farm roads, despite blue lights and sirens instructing him to stop.

Police back-up was summoned and they set up a road block where he lost control of the vehicle. He fled into the bushes, but police managed to find him and arrest him.
