Newborn found abandoned in East Bank

ALEXANDRA – A newborn baby was dumped in the affluent East Bank section of Alex.

A newborn baby was found abandoned in a street in Alexandra’s affluent East Bank section on 6 September.

According to Elizabeth Mokoena, the social worker and manager of the Alex Kidz Clinic, the newborn was abandoned beside the road by a community member on East Bank Lane in the early hours of the morning.

Mokoena said police were called to the scene and the newborn was taken by ambulance to Alex Clinic for a check-up and later brought to the Kidz Clinic.

The newborn appeared to be healthy and was bubbly, she said, while appealing to community members to help track down the mother or father.

“We would also like to appeal to anyone who might know a woman or relative that was pregnant and suddenly does not have the baby or pregnancy to come forward,” said Mokoena, who is also a coordinator of the Victim Support and Empowerment at the Kidz Clinic which is stationed at Alexandra Police Station.
