Son, dad and guards nab house robber in Alex

ALEXANDRA – Midrand family and guards nab robber.

Alex Magistrates’ Court remanded a man in custody pending further investigation for alleged housebreaking with the intention to steal.

The 23-year-old suspect from Ivory Park was arrested in the early morning on 9 July by security guards who chased and caught him in the street after he scaled a security fence and wall of a Midrand residence.

The homeowner who was asleep in the living room woke up after he saw a light in the room. He then tackled the suspect who then overpowered him. The victim screamed forcing the suspect to flee through an open window.

The victim’s father then woke up and both chased the suspect.

Security guards who heard noise joined the chase from outside the complex wall and caught the suspect as he fled in the street. In mitigation, the suspect claimed that he was walking from a nearby drinking place when he strayed into the complex thinking it was his friend’s residence.

He claimed the guards were asleep when he walked in and they chased and beat him before he was arrested.
