Alex police are investigating a case of the attempted rape of a 10-year-old girl at her Alex home by a suspect known to her.
Police spokesperson Captain Allie Kodisang said the incident occurred at 3pm on 23 July. The suspect allegedly gave the child a R10 note and told her that he loved her.
He then asked the victim to go to a toilet or outside with him, but she refused. He is said to have fondled her and exposed his private parts to her before giving her R50 which he upped by a further R10, but she still refused his advances.
The victim told her father about it and he allegedly shouted at her before asking the suspect about the incident. It wasn’t specified who reported the matter to the police or if the suspect has since been arrested.
