A murder, three rapes in a week

ALEXANDRA – Man is murdered, three women raped in a week.

Alex police are investigating a murder and three rape cases which occurred in the week ending 18 June.

In the murder case, Captain Allie Kodisang, the police spokesperson said they were called to Alex Clinic where they were shown the corpse of a man with multiple wounds. Kodisang said the deceased, who was identified as Nkanyiso Dladla, was shot on 3rd Avenue at 8.45pm on 13 June and was brought to the clinic where he was certified dead on arrival. The perpetrator is still at large.

The first rape incident occurred at a 14th Avenue home in the early hours of 15 June. It is alleged the rape was committed by the victim’s friend and neighbour. The victim claimed she had been with the suspect at his home, watching movies on TV. The suspect, who was allegedly smoking tik, is said to have pushed her onto a mattress and throttled her, before forcibly undressing her.

She said she did not resist but asked him to use a condom, which he did. It is alleged that he raped her four times during the night.

When she left his place in the morning, the suspect allegedly produced a knife and threatened to kill her and her brother if they reported the incident. It was not stated if he was arrested.

The second reported rape occurred at a 3rd Avenue home early in the morning on 17 June. The victim, who claimed to have been drunk, arrived home with three male friends. She shared a bed, while fully dressed, with one of them. The other two shared another bed.

Later, her ex-boyfriend arrived with other men and pulled off the blankets she and the companion were sharing, and accused them of not respecting him.

Her companion apologised and claimed not to have done anything to her, but she noticed that her panties had been pulled down. She suspected that she had been penetrated. The ex-boyfriend beat them up.

The third rape allegedly occurred in Tsutsumani at midnight on 18 June. The victim, who is pregnant, was asleep with her child in the kitchen when a cold draught woke her up. She noticed a man with a gun standing next to her.

The suspect ordered them not to scream. He is said to have undressed and raped her without a condom. After a few minutes, the alarm on her mother’s phone in the parents’ bedroom went off. This seemingly frightened the perpetrator who ran away. The man had apparently entered the house through an unlocked door.
