Bank helps to arrest fraudster

ALEXANDRA – Fraudster nabbed trying to change victim's withdrawal limit at a bank.

A bank saved an Alex man from being swindled of his money by a suspect who was arrested for alleged fraud.

Police spokesperson Captain Allie Kodisang said the victim lost his house keys at a tavern on the night of 10 June. He was forced to break a window to gain access into his home. When he woke up in the morning, the front door to the house was wide open and some of his property was missing.

While still shocked that someone had raided the home possibly using his keys, a cousin told him that a Capitac bank consultant at the Balfour branch had called asking him to come to the bank urgently.

On arrival, he was told that the suspect, who they were detaining had presented his (victim’s) driver’s licence and bank card and requested for a limit increase from R1 000 to R2 100. The suspect unknown to the victim, was searched and found in possession of other items belonging to the victim.

Police were called and the recovered items were handed back to the victim while the suspect was arrested.
