The Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association has joined the fray to express its dismay at the wanton murder of women and children which have swept the country like wildfire.
Saying “kwanele, ho lekane, it’s enough, and we are now gatvol with this new evil sweeping our country”, the secretary general of Alex football, Mafika Morajane, described the recent spate of murders as ‘disturbing and inhumane’.
Morajane said the LFA had been quietly sitting back and watching the news, reading newspapers and other social media networks, in the hope that the scourge would subside and eventually come to an end.

“We can no longer sit back and hope it will end on its own, We need to take a stand and express our view on the matter and urge men, who are man enough, to love our women and children, care for them and see them prosper to become useful and productive citizens of our country and communities,” Morajane said.
He said the LFA was part of the community of Alexandra and hence it cannot remain silent when members of the community decide to wage war against another section of the community – “our women and children, raping and strangling them and dumping their burnt bodies in the veld”.
Morajane asked, “Why is this horrendous behaviour happening in our beloved country? Is this the freedom we so dearly fought for? Let us not allow criminals to take over our country and take its citizens for a ride.”
He urged the safety and security institutions of the country, such as the police and the courts, to play a proactive role, opposed to a reactive one where they just react to crime committed.
“I also call upon the communities to play their role and jealously guard our women and children and report all the bad and rotten elements roaming our streets.
“These criminals come from within communities and there are certain members of the same communities that know who these scumbags are, and they choose to remain silent,” warned Morajane.

Morajane called for the return of the death penalty. “The LFA would welcome the return of the death penalty as we are really gatvol and hope the death penalty could be the salvation.”
He called on the people with so much energy and strength to rape, kill and destroy our family life to use that misdirected energy to build our country’s economy.
“Our economy has now entered a recession following the junk status ratings. This is bad news for us but we can use this energy in a positive way. Let’s channel our efforts and energy to fight this [economic] demon,” Morajane suggested.
