Workers nabbed for theft of medicines

ALEXANDRA – Pharmaceutical and courier company workers nabbed for theft of medicines.

Seven employees of Adcock Ingram, a pharmaceutical company, and Orion courier services were each granted R3 000 bail on 17 May by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court on a charge of theft of medicines.

They will reappear in court on 15 July.

The court heard that one of the accused admitted to the offence during police interrogation. The offence was committed at night on 7 October last year. The pharmaceutical company employees, based at a Midrand depot, were captured on CCTV footage loading and taking out pallets of boxes containing the medicine worth R541 000.

Later, the courier company’s tracker system based in Denver was tracked to the same location as the truck from the pharmaceutical company.

It is suspected they were exchanging the stolen medicines which haven’t been recovered.
