ALEXANDRA – Police continue investigating a murder suspect who tried hang himself.

Alex police are continuing their investigation of the murder of a woman allegedly by a male suspect who tried to hang himself.

The suspect is now in custody pending a court appearance subject to the outcome of the investigation.

The suspect was taken to the Tembisa Hospital under police guard at 2.30pm on 29 April after the woman’s murder at an Eastbank home.

Police spokesperson Captain Allie Kodisang said it wasn’t specified if the two were in a relationship.

Two witnesses alleged that the suspect phoned them and told them that he had killed the victim. When they arrived at the scene, they found the body with a knife wound to the neck, lying in a pool of blood on a bed. The suspect was hanging from the roof with a rope around his neck. They managed to get him down, alive.

When the police arrived, they found him kneeling next to the bed and took him to the hospital for treatment, while the body was taken to a government mortuary.

One of the witnesses told the police that the victim had told her the previous day that the suspect was giving her problems.
