Man nabbed in taxi minutes after armed robbery

ALEXANDRA – Suspect pulled out of taxi with stolen goods minutes after armed robbery.

 

A suspect who was pulled out of a taxi and arrested for armed robbery by the Joburg Metro police minutes after the incident, is due in court soon.

The robbery occurred at 6.30am on 21 April at the intersection of Vincent Tshabalala Road and 6th Avenue in Alexandra.

Alex Police Station spokesperson Captain Allie Kodisang said the victim was taking a bag of cameras out of the boot of his vehicle while waiting for a colleague when the suspect approached and pointed a gun at him. After taking the victim’s bag and cellphone, the robber casually walked down the road before boarding a taxi which drove off.

The victim and the companion followed the taxi in his vehicle and on the way, they met some Metro police officers who he alerted of the incident.

They followed and stopped the taxi. The suspect was identified, removed from the taxi and arrested.

The bag with all its contents was recovered and the gun allegedly used in the robbery was confiscated and sent for forensic testing.
