Cape Town City’s Lebogang Manyama leads the scoring pack with 12 goals

JOBURG – Mamelodi Sundowns are already being tipped to successfully defend the Absa premiership title after Kaizer Chiefs lose to Cape Town City.

Alexandra resident and captain of Cape Town City, Lebogang Manyama continues to lead his side by example and is now the joint leader of the scoring pack of the Absa Premiership with 12 goals to his credit.

Manyama jointly leads the Golden Boot pack with Orlando Pirates’ Tendai Ndoro. This follows yet another of Manyama’s many scintillating performances for the premiership newcomers which has earned him two Player of the Month awards so far this season.

He put up yet another fine-tuned display against Kaizer Chiefs and scored a stunning goal to give City a 2–1 lead before halftime.

This after Chief’s perennial star, Siphiwe Tshabalala had cancelled Aubrey Ngoma’s opening strike in a match played at the Cape Town Stadium.

Chief’s prolific midfielder, Joseph Molangoane restored parity for the Soweto glamour boys after the break before the home team’s Judas Moseamedi struck the winner for his side in the dying minutes of the game for a 3–2 win.

City’s triumph took them to 49 points from 25 games on the top of the log ahead of title holders Mamelodi Sundowns, who now trail City by two points after beating relegation-threatened Free State Stars 2–0 and Ajax Cape Town 2–0. Bidvest Wits are third and Amakhosi fourth on the table with the Clever Boys suffering a setback to their championship hopes after losing 1–0 to the Brazilians’ crosstown rivals, SuperSport United.

Soccer commentators are already giving the title to the Brazilians but you can never write off Eric Tinkler’s never-say-die City outfit who are enjoying themselves in their maiden season of the premiership after buying the premiership status of Mpumalanga Black Aces. Aces has since resurfaced in Alexandra as Alex Black Aces and play in the ABC Motsepe League.

City has done the double over Sundowns after beating them home and away in the premiership and seems the form team as opposed to the Brazilians who seem to be blowing hot and cold.
