The more the merrier

JOBURG – City launches integrated Joburg City Theatres, which the Joburg Theatre in Braamfontein, Roodepoort Theatre and Soweto Theatre now operate as one entity.

Joburg Theatre (SOC) Ltd, trading as Joburg City Theatres (JCT), is a municipal entity owned by the City of Joburg and operates the Joburg Theatre in Braamfontein, the Roodepoort Theatre and Soweto Theatre, with the aim to be an internationally recognised centre of excellence in the provision of world-class theatre entertainment to the citizens of Johannesburg.

“We realised that many people still don’t know that Joburg Theatre, Roodepoort Theatre and Soweto Theatre are part of one company, hence the idea for arranging the launch tour,” said Khushu Koloti, the marketing executive at JCT and a former marketer at Alex FM community radio.

In true theatre style, the all-around tour over Easter included the three versatile theatres, the youth development platforms, the fine dining offered by the in-house Stages restaurants and the high profile corporate venue offerings.

JCT now has a fully-equipped mobile theatre truck that is available for corporate and public rental. Productions can be adapted to delight audiences from the back of a 20m truck, designed by Mercedes-Benz and built by Serco.

The mobile theatre boasts a comprehensive 10m wide and 5m deep stage, dressing rooms and a professional lighting and sound system.

Board members selected by the MMC of Community Development, councillor Nonhlanhla Sifumba and the Executive Mayor, Herman Mashaba assist in providing strategic direction, leadership and oversight, so as to enhance shareholder value and ensure JCT’s long-term

sustainability, development and growth.

“We now have a full team of experienced professionals who can contribute to bringing new content, at the same time being mindful of the transformational agenda and making sure South Africa is able to tell, stage its own stories and present them on international platforms,” said Claire Pacariz, executive producer for JCT.
