Employee accused of theft

ALEXANDRA – Department of education employee on a theft charge.

 

A man who allegedly stole stationery worth R182 000 from his employer, the Joburg East District of the Provincial Department of Education in Parkmore, will reappear for a further hearing at the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court on 10 May.

The accused from Sebokeng who is a groundsman and is currently on suspension, denied the charge and was granted bail. It is alleged that he masterminded the theft of the stationery at the office in December last year and early January this year. The suspect was allegedly seen by security guards and other staff members several times after working hours with a group entering the offices and exiting with boxes of the stationery that included photocopy paper. Twenty-five boxes of paper were lost in the process.
