Three cars hijacked in 1 day in Alexandra

ALEXANDRA – Police on manhunt for three car hijacking suspects.

 

Three motor vehicles were hijacked within 10 hours in three separate incidents on 21 March in Alex.

Police spokesperson Captain Allie Kodisang said police were investigating the incidents involving several wanted suspects. The first hijacking occurred at 10am on 1st Park Street, Tsutsumani. The victim was offloading goods from his Toyota bakkie at his spaza shop when three suspects approached him. One of them allegedly pointed a gun at the victim and demanded the vehicle keys, which he handed over. They drove away in the vehicle, valued at R95 000, and which hasn’t been recovered. In the vehicle were airtime, soft drinks and other items all valued at R4 000.

The second incident occurred at 3.30pm at the Vincent Tshabalala Road off-ramp onto the N3 Freeway. A motorist with his family in a Mitsubishi Pajero stopped at a robot where two men were crossing. The men suddenly turned towards the vehicle, and allegedly pointed guns and ordered the victim, his wife and their children to get out before driving away in it onto the freeway. The vehicle, valued at R200 000, was later recovered at Marlboro Gardens.

The third incident occurred at 8.40pm on 6th Avenue and involved a Toyota Avanza taxi. The taxi driver, who already had passengers in the vehicle, picked up three men on 1st Street, Wynberg. When he got to 6th Avenue, one of the suspects allegedly pointed a gun at the driver who stopped the vehicle, jumped out and ran away with the other passengers. The suspects drove away in the vehicle, which hasn’t been recovered.
