Police nab shooting suspect near Alex Police Station in Wynberg.

ALEXANDRA – Police run to shooting incident and arrest suspected gunman.

A suspect was arrested for the alleged attempted murder of a man who was shot near the Alex Police Station at the corner of 2nd Street and Vincent Tshabalala Road, Wynberg.

The incident happened at about 10pm on 9 March. Police spokesperson Lieutenant Allie Kodisang said police officers at the station heard a gunshot and ran to the scene. They stopped a Nissan Navara twin cab that was about to drive away. Two men were seated in the front and two in the back.

The police ordered the four to get out of the vehicle when one of the men, who was dressed in a security officer’s uniform, ran away. The remaining three were searched and officers found that one was bleeding from a gunshot wound to the leg. He alleged that one of the two other men had shot him.

The vehicle was searched and a gun was found underneath a seat. It was traced through the serial number to the alleged shooter, who was arrested. Investigations will determine if and when he will appear in court. It wasn’t stated if the injured victim was taken for treatment.
