Funeral of Map games operative, John Khambule who associated with Alex for many years, to be announced soon

ALEXANDRA – Map games and soccer lovers reel from John Khambule's death. Funeral arrangements to be announced soon.

Funeral arrangements for the late John Khambule who died at the age of 42 in the early morning of 22 March are still to be announced.

Khambule was a soccer administrator for the Maimane Alfred Phiri Games (Map).

Expressing condolences to the family, Khambule’s close friends and Alex residents Percy Ndaba, a soccer administrator and teacher, and former soccer legend and Map founder, Maimane Phiri said his unexpected death was a shock.

Ndaba said Khambule’s association with Alex dated back seven years ago when he came from Thokoza and became involved in the township’s social and sports scenes.

“He was the kindest of human beings, jack of all trades, a jolly, energetic person and health fanatic. We are baffled. We played a match with him on 19 March, were at a chill session together on Human Rights Day and he showed no sign of ill health nor depression,” Ndaba said.

Maimane saw Khambule for the last time on 21 March at a soccer match only to hear of his death the following morning.

“He was a technician and talented guy who ran the tournament with aplomb. We will struggle to replace him,” Maimane said.

Funeral arrangements are still to be announced.
