Man to appear in Alex Magistrates’ Court for burglary and theft of R5

ALEXANDRA – A suspect arrested after stealing R5 and a woman's cellphones.

A suspect, known by his female victim, and acting with two accomplices who are still at large, was arrested for housebreaking and allegedly stealing R5 and cellphones.

He will appear in Alexandra Magistrates’ Court after investigations are complete.

Alex Police Station spokesperson, Lieutenant Allie Kodisang said the incident occurred at 3.30am on 27 February while the victim was asleep in her 22nd Avenue residence.

She was woken up by the sound of someone falling and noticed that the door into her place was cracked and opened. The victim then allegedly saw three suspects in the house – one of them wearing a balaclava.

One of the suspects allegedly threatened the victim and demanded a firearm he claimed belonged to her husband – who was not home at the time of the incident – which she denied knowledge of, and also demanded money he said the victim had.

When the victim denied having money, one of the suspects took her and her husband’s cellphones and R5. Before leaving, the suspects allegedly threatened to come back for her if she reported the incident to anyone.

It wasn’t specified how the suspect was arrested and if and when he will appear in court.
