Man burns face after drinking beer laced with paraffin in Alexandra

ALEXANDRA – A man drinks beer laced with petrol and burns his face after lighting a cigarette.

Alex police officers are investigating an attempted murder involving a victim who lit a cigarette and caught fire after drinking beer laced with paraffin.

Spokesperson for Alex Police Station, Lieutenant Allie Kodisang said the incident occurred at 8.30pm on 12 March in 15th Avenue in Alexandra.

A witness and relative to the 33-year-old victim, alleged that an unknown man poured petrol in a bottle of beer, which the already-intoxicated victim drank.

After the victim sipped on the beer, he lit a cigarette and allegedly caught fire.

Police officers were called to the scene and found the victim with burn wounds to his face.

An ambulance took him to a local clinic for treatment.
