Alleged hijackers’ case at Alexandra Magistrates’ Court awaits interpreter

ALEXANDRA – Bakkie hijackers' case on ice while court looks for interpreter.

The Alexandra Magistrates’ Court has kept two alleged hijacking suspects in custody after postponing their case to 22 March to enable the court to secure a foreign language interpreter.

The two suspects allegedly hijacked a loaded Hyundai bakkie in Tsutsumani during the mid-morning of 24 January from a trader who was offloading R100 000 worth of goods into his shop.

Metro police on patrol found the suspects offloading the goods from the bakkie in Alex into another vehicle.

When questioned, the two allegedly claimed ownership of the bakkie.

When police told them that the bakkie was reported stolen, the two suspects tried to run away but were apprehended.

The bakkie and goods were recovered and returned to the victim.
