Blood-stained suspect arrested for murder in Alex

ALEXANDRA – An Alex taxi owner has been granted bail after being charged with the murder.

A murder suspect, said to be a taxi owner, was granted bail of R2 000 at the Alex Magistrates Court for the alleged murder of another motorist in Alex last year.

The incident occurred during the early hours of 18 September last year at 4th Avenue, after the two were involved in an altercation.

The accused was in the company of several people in two taxis returning from a festival in Soweto. Upon arriving at their destination, passengers took their time to step off the taxis, which had allegedly stopped.

A bakkie, with several occupants, arrived at the scene and the altercation began after an argument ensued about the blocked road.

The two groups fought and the suspect allegedly knifed one of the bakkie’s occupants on the head. When the occupant collapsed, the accused allegedly jumped into his taxi with some of his colleagues and drove to the Alex Police Station where he reported the incident. He washed his blood-stained hands before going to the Alex Clinic for treatment.

While at the clinic, the bakkie occupants arrived and asked the nursing staff about a person fitting the description of the accused. When they spotted him, the gang allegedly assaulted the suspect. The police were called and rescued the suspect then arrested him for the alleged murder.

Further investigations continue.
