Visionary Busha wants to uplift women

ALEXANDRA – The JM Busha Investment Group plans to uplift women in various sporting codes, including the financial sector where it plies its trade.

Joseph Makamba Busha of JM Busha Investment Group is a man on a mission who wants to use his business exploits to improve the plight of women.

Busha, a Zimbabwean businessman and founder of the Dunkeld-based investment group, is determined to use not just the power of football but various other sporting codes to empower women, including in the economic sphere of the country. He is also determined to do this in the regions that make up the Southern African Development Community (SADC).

Speaking at the launch of the second edition of the JM Busha Women’s Soccer Tournament at the Altrec Hall in Alexandra, Busha said he was determined to uplift the status of women in the SADC region where male sporting codes tended to take precedence over those of women.

“If you live in a country where inequalities are as visible as the blue sky, especially when it comes to women, then as business entities and as a country we have no option but to ensure that we take some of our most vulnerable with us,” said Busha.

“JM Busha wants the upliftment of women to take centre stage. We’re determined to leverage that in all sporting codes, including getting women to use our financial products for their betterment.”

The secretary general of the Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association, Mafika Morajane said his association had plans to launch a women’s league in the township no later than 2018, while former soccer star, Rhoda Maphosa urged the association to involve women in positions of running football in the township.

Ward 105 councillor Tefo Raphadu congratulated Busha for profiling women’s football in Alexandra and in the SADC region. “Teams from other countries will help us gauge our own strengths and weaknesses,” said Raphadu.

“I also hope the tournament can be used to level the playing fields not just in terms of women participation but also levelled when it comes to the distribution of resources.”

The group will soon be launching its JM Busha 54 Races, which will be staged in Johannesburg with athletes from 54 countries on the continent participating as part of promoting unity and peace on the African continent.
