Avanza owner shot at by a stranger in Alexandra

ALEXANDRA – Man shoots at Avanza driver after been told the vehicle wasn't a taxi.

A Toyota Avanza owner escaped injury from a hail of bullets fired by a suspect now wanted for shooting at him when told that the vehicle was not a taxi.

The incident happened at about 10pm on 24 February.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Allie Kodisang said the victim stopped his vehicle at the robots at the corner of 8th and Alfred Nzo avenues. The suspect approached and when he tried to open the vehicle’s door, the driver told him that it wasn’t a taxi. When he drove away, the suspect fired several shots, hitting the vehicle but missing the victim who jumped out and ran away.

The victim reported the incident to police who were nearby but the suspect had disappeared. Several bullet holes were found in the vehicle including four in the driver’s side window and front windscreen.
