Troyeville Primary School’s volleyball team coach, Nkosilathi Moyo walked away with a Coach of the Year award at the fourth edition of the Gauteng Schools Sport Awards held at the Linder Auditorium Hall of the Wits Education campus in Parktown.
The event saw winners in 16 categories being recognised for their excellence in schools sport during 2016. Awards were presented to the young athletes, school teams, coaches, officials and schools that excelled in the past year.
Moyo was among the night’s biggest winners as he walked away with his third in a row Coach of the Year title for his work with the Troyeville Primary School’s volleyball team.
Volleyball also won for Sport Code of the Year for the third consecutive year, while Isipho Sethu Special School in Vosloorus took home three trophies for learners with special educational needs (LSEN) School of the Year.
Administrator of the Year went to Khethiwe Ndala of Isipho Sethu Special School and LSEN School Female Athlete of the Year went to young athletics rising star, Mary Dzimba who nabbed the same prize in 2014.
Gauteng MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Faith Mazibuko congratulated all the winners for making the province so proud and affirming Gauteng as the ‘Home of champions’.
“The province will continue making it possible that young talent is identified, nurtured and recognised so that it meets its full potential,” Mazibuko said in her address at the awards.
The awards were organised and hosted in a partnership with the Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation and the Gauteng Department of Education under the theme, Celebrating Today’s Stars, Tomorrow’s Champions.
