ALEXANDRA – Residents nab robbery suspect and police are looking for his accomplice.

The public apprehended a man allegedly involved in a business robbery where cash and goods worth R8 000 were stolen from a shop owner.

The suspect is awaiting a court appearance while his accomplice escaped and is wanted by

Alex police for the robbery which occurred at about 8.30am on 24 February.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Allie Kodisang said armed robbers – one with a toy gun – approached and threatened the victim as he entered his shop. They searched him and took R5 000 in cash from his pocket. They also stole cigarettes and airtime vouchers worth R2 000 and R1 000 respectively before running away.

The victim shouted for help and the public responded and apprehended the suspect while his accomplice escaped. It wasn’t specified if anything was recovered from the suspect.
