Habitual criminal nabbed while being tried for another court case

ALEXANDRA – Jailbird wanted for house robbery arrested at court while attending another robbery case.

A frequent criminal, with convictions dating back to his teens, was remanded in custody recently at the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court to enable further investigation, in connection with an alleged house robbery and theft case, which took place on 5 June, last year.

The 44-year-old accused, Peter Maphula, was arrested for the case on 17 June last year, at the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court, while attending another case for a robbery which he allegedly committed under the alias, Peter Bapela, and for which he was out on bail.

His fingerprints were linked to a robbery at a Woodmead guest house, where television sets and linen worth R35 000 were stolen. The owners, who were away at the time, were alerted to the burglary by a worker. Upon their return, they found the back kitchen door had been broken and the items were missing.
