Suspected cemetery rapist awaits day in court

ALEXANDRA – Suspected park rapist is arrested after victim identifies him standing near her home.

A suspect in a rape case that occurred in Alex in September last year, was remanded in custody by the Alex Magistrates’ Court pending further investigation.

The suspect, together with an accomplice who is wanted by Alex police, allegedly met the victim walking with a friend at night on 18th Avenue. They are said to have threatened them with a knife before taking their cellphones and demanding money, which the victims did not have.

The accused, who allegedly had the knife, separated the women and is claimed to have forced one to go with him to a cemetery. His accomplice allegedly took the other woman to her home, but in the process was disturbed by her neighbour, enabling her to escape.

Meanwhile, the accused took his victim to the cemetery where he allegedly forced her to remove her white trousers, saying they would alert passersby. He then forced her to a nearby park where he allegedly raped her on a bench without using a condom.

Afterwards, he flashed the torch on his cellphone, attracting his accomplice, who also allegedly raped her without a condom. It is claimed that afterwards, noise from people nearby calling the victim’s name prompted the suspects to leave the park with her. On the way, the suspects are said to have argued, enabling her to escape.

She identified the suspect through a burn scar on his face the following morning when he was standing near her home. Residents were told and they restrained him until police came and arrested him.
