Coppers arrest copper wire thief

ALEXANDRA – Worker fails to account for copper wire found on him, awaits trial.

A suspect alleged to have stolen copper cable wire from his employer was granted R500 bail by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court pending further investigation.

The suspect, a packer at a building materials supply company in Sunninghill, was working the night shift on 23 November when he was observed by police on patrol allegedly acting suspiciously inside the company’s premises. When they approached him, the suspect retreated into the building.

The following morning, as the suspect was about to leave the premises, the police arrived at the entrance gate and spoke to the company’s security guard.

The suspect noticed the police with the guard and again retreated into the building. The guard called for back-up and with a colleague found him hiding in the building and apprehended him.

The suspect was found in possession of rolls of copper wire valued at R1 000 which he could not account for. The suspect was arrested.
