Attempted rape suspects await another court date

ALEXANDRA – Robbery and attempted rape suspects delay case, seeking legal support.

Two suspects who are out on R500 bail each for on robbery and attempted rape charges had their case postponed by the Alex Magistrates’ Court to enable them time to prepare their representation.

The two are said to have committed the offences at 2am on 20 November last year. They were arrested on 30 November after the victim pointed them out to the police at their workplace. Bail was granted at their first court appearance on 2 December and the case was further postponed at the 2 February hearing, to later this month.

The suspects – one allegedly with a firearm and the other, wielding a knife – are said to have approached, grabbed and robbed the victim of her cellphone as she left a Christmas party from her workplace at the Alex Plaza. When she tried to escape, the suspects caught her in a passage among shacks, undressed her and pinned her down.

Luckily for her, a car with its lights on disturbed the suspects, enabling her to run, naked, to the front of the vehicle seeking help. The driver stopped but, quickly drove off.

The victim then ran to nearby shacks where two women let her in. The suspects allegedly followed and waited outside the shack. One of the suspects was identified by the women who let the victim in, as a boyfriend of one of them, and the other was identified by his name.

The suspects left after a while and the victim reported the incident. She identified the suspects days later at their workplace while she was with the police investigating the case. The suspects were arrested a few days later at their workplace.
