Spaza shop thief denied bail

ALEXANDRA – The suspect has been denied bail after allegedly snatching a box full of money in Setswetla and making a run for it.

A suspect who allegedly robbed an asylum seeker’s shop in Setswetla informal settlement on 2 December last year was denied bail by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Allie Kodisang said the suspect walked into the shop at about 9pm and pretended he wanted to buy a cigarette. But when the shop owner handed it to him he allegedly grabbed his hand and demanded money. The frightened shop owner handed him a box with R5 000 in it, which the suspect took and fled.

He was arrested a few days later after the victim identified him to the police.
