A lot at stake for winners of Agent Zero tournament

ALEXANDRA - R15 000 is the prize money at stake for the champions of the Agent Zero Five-A-Side Tournament on 4 March.

Winners of the Agent Zero Five-A-Side Tournament, which will be hosted on 4 March at the newly refurbished Ground One Stadium, will stand a chance to take home R15 000.

“Runners-up of the tournament will take home R5 000,” said tournament organiser, Tumelo ‘Agent Zero’ Shai in an interview with Alex News.

Shai said he was looking forward to hosting 32 teams in the tournament which will be divided into eight groups of four teams, with two top teams per group proceeding to the last 16.

In the last 32 and 16, and quarterfinals of the tournament, the teams will play 15 minutes without a halftime break but will only swap ends, while in the semis and finals, they will play a maximum of 30 minutes.

Participation in the tournament will cost a team R1 000, with a non-refundable deposit of R500 per team to reserve their place.

With a number of teams from Sandton, Soweto and Randburg having already indicated their willingness to participate in the tournament, Shai said he was calling on more Alex teams to come forward to beef up the stakes as hosts of the tournament.

“I am still having negotiations with potential sponsors of the tournament and that will only be confirmed once we put pen to paper on the dotted line.”

However, Shai assured participating teams that sponsorship or no sponsorship, the tournament will go ahead as planned.

“I would like to encourage Alexandrians not to rely too much on sponsors for whatever they do. Sponsors should be a cherry on top and our events must never be scuppered by a lack of sponsorship.”
