FNB suspends three employees after bank burglaries

JOBURG - FNB CEO Jacques Celliers speaks out...

FNB CEO Jacques Celliers has said that after the bank had viewed both of their internal investgation reports on both Randburg and Parktown burglaries, three employees have been suspended.

“We can confirm that FNB has suspended three employees at the Parktown branch where 48 safety deposit boxes were tampered with on 31 December,” explained Celliers.

He added that the suspensions reaffirm FNB’s policy to zero tolerance towards any behaviour that compromise its security measures.

Celliers explained that in light of the  preliminary information that was available for the Parktown burglary, the bank has, despite the fact that it is not legally obliged to do so, taken a decision that it will consider settlement offers to the 48 customers who were impacted by the Parktown burglary. This is subject to the outcome of the external independent investigation that will be concluded this month.

Regarding the customers impacted by the Randburg burglary, FNB will only be in a position to assess these claims once they  have received the final outcome of the independent external investigation. In the interim Celliers  confirmed that the bank will reimburse customers for insurance excess payments where customers submitted successful claims to their insurance companies.

Furthermore, FNB will assist impacted clients by reimbursing them for reasonable costs incurred for the replacement of personal documents such as marriage certificates, identity documents, birth certificates and passports. Impacted customers can submit their information via: safecustodyhelp@fnb.co.za

“Due to the ongoing police investigation, the bank is unable to provide further details pertaining to the actual criminal investigation,” he concluded.
