‘Fake cops’ rob woman

ALEXANDRA — They allegedly approached her after she had withdrawn money from an ATM, conned her into going with them, robbed her and dumped her.

Alexandra police are investigating the alleged robbery of a woman by two suspects who posed as policemen.

The incident, in which the victim lost R400 in cash and a cellphone worth R800, occurred at about 12.45pm on 12 December last year.

Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Allie Kodisang, said the suspects approached the victim at the Pan Africa shopping centre after she had withdrawn R4 000 from an ATM. One of them produced a police identity card for a Constable Ramoshuba and told her she was wanted by Bramley police, where a case had been opened against her.

The suspects then led her to a white Toyota Corolla parked nearby, but instead of going to the station they drove in the opposite direction.

When she protested, the suspect who was driving stopped the vehicle and his accomplice got out, went to the rear of of the car where she was sitting and demanded money. When she said she did not have any, he started to throttle her and the driver pointed a gun at her, prompting her to hand over R400 in cash and her cellphone. They dropped her off and sped off.
