No fee to pee in Alex Mall, vows Galxcoc president

ALEXANDRA – Shoppers and visitors to the new Alex Mall, which is still under construction, will not be required to pay to pee.

President of the Greater Alexandra Chamber of Commerce (Galxcoc), Mpho Motsumi, has assured the community of Alexandra that they will not be required to pay to urinate when they shop at his new Alex Mall.

He was replying to a question from an Alex News journalist during a tour of the mall to highlight the progress covered so far on the construction of the facility that is expected to open its doors to shoppers at the beginning of April.

“There will be no need for that at this mall. We’re not going to tax our shoppers to pay to pee as is the case elsewhere. I dislike that notorious practice and what we shall do here is permanently station a person to look after our ablution blocks to ensure they are not vandalised.

“We’re not going to go the route of taxing our shoppers, and their use of the ablution facilities will be a free service that we will provide in line with established malls all over the country and, indeed, the world.”

The issue of paying to urinate hit the headlines a few weeks back when the Pan Africa Mall opened its door and began charging people to use its ablution facilities. The mall owners said that by doing so, they were trying to raise money towards the constant repairs needed to fix vandalised taps and other ablution facility items.
