7 fatal festive season stabbings in Alex

ALEXANDRA – Alex records seven fatal stabbings in four days.

Seven people died in separate incidents in a spate of stabbings in Alex over four days, before and after the Day of Reconciliation on 16 December.

Two fatalities occurred on 11 and 13 December, three on 17 December and two on 18 December.

Alex police spokesperson Lieutenant Allie Kodisang said the first victim, identified as Mandlakhe Hadebe, was declared dead at the Alex Clinic on 11 December. He had a stab wound near his collarbone and was taken to the government mortuary.

On 13 December, a stabbing victim was found dead in the early hours of the morning on a path near the Jukskei River in Eastbank. He had stab wounds to his body, and his face had seemingly been bitten by rats. He was identified by a relative as Karabo Mokholobotho.

On 17 December at about midnight, a man identified as Sifiso Makhubo was found dead at his home on 2nd Avenue. He had stab wounds to his body and a knife and screwdriver were found in his room. Kodisang said there were signs of a struggle and there were pools of blood in and outside the room.

A suspect was arrested for the murder of Makwande Ralaralala in the early morning on 17 December. Kodisang said the incident occurred next to a tavern on 7th Avenue. The victim had stab wounds to his chest.

Another suspect was arrested in connection with the death of a victim identified by a relative as Sibusiso Moshapo. Kodisang said the incident happened on 13th Avenue in the early morning of 17 December and the deceased had stab wounds to his body and other injuries to his face and head.

A suspect was arrested in connection with the death of a young woman in the early morning of 18 December. The victim, known only as Lucy, was apparently found at the suspect’s home by a relative with blood on her body and on the sheets that she was lying on. It is is suspected that she had been stabbed.

Kodisang said another victim, identified as Bongani Nene, was found dead at about 6.10pm on the 18 December on 4th Avenue. He had stab wounds to his body.
