Kwabhekilanga on top, yet again

ALEXANDRA — The school's matrics have been best performers four years in a row

Kwabhekilanga Secondary School has done it again, claiming bragging rights for the best performing school among Alex’s five secondary schools, four years in succession.

Its record, which remains within the 90 per cent threshold, dates back to 2013 when it notched 97 per cent, 94 per cent in 2014, 90 per cent in 2015 and 92 per cent last year. Only Alex High School, its closest rival in previous years, crossed this threshold, this time at 91.93 per cent.

Kwabhekilanga’s 131 matrics accumulated 31 distinctions, with 43 of them obtaining bachelor’s degree entry, 64 diploma entries, 10 higher certificates, five a mix of passes and nine failures.

Deputy principal Sehlano Makwela said, “We serve the same community and look forward to [a time] when all other Alex schools can break into and give us stiff competition in the 90 per cent range, as we all aspire for the ultimate, achievable 100 per cent. Our lead will not be safe but hard to beat if we continue our method of teaching and learning.”

He said their success was based on:

Makwela said these should be complemented with maintaining functioning classes, as well as afternoon and weekend teaching. “We also distribute learning material and start our classes earlier than the prescribed opening date at the beginning of the year, to ensure learning commences in advance.

“Already, physical science, maths, history and life orientation classes have been running since 5 January, even though schools start on 11 January.”
