Bokamoso seeks more partnerships

JOHANNESBURG – A non-profit organisation needs your help...

Bokamoso (Our future) Youth Centre, a non-profit organisation, is appealing for financial and partnership support for its groundbreaking youth targeted programmes which provide advice and referrals, skills development and social services.

The programmes, which cater for pre- and post-matriculating youths, have already assisted hundreds of youths through various empowerment and accredited skills training activities, with some placed at call centres, in internships and learnerships, as short-term and permanent employees for companies and organisations.

Palesa Mpiti, the administrator of the programme said, “The support, which should include resourcing, will help us run and sustain the programmes in the long-term.

“[The programmes] include life skills, awareness against teenage pregnancy, HIV and Aids and other dreaded diseases, health, good diet and nutrition, exercise, drug and alcohol abuse, domestic violence prevention and social services for those in distress or displaced by shack fires and floods. This will be through food parcels and referrals to welfare support services.”

Youthful staff members of the programme endear the organisation to their target peers who become further exposed to entrepreneurship skills to help them start their own businesses.

Mpiti said they also hosted occasional cultural activities to help promote and preserve the participants’ African heritage.

The organisation’s current partners, who provide project-based support, include the Gauteng Provincial Government’s Department of Social Development, City of Joburg, Gauteng Gambling Board and the National Youth Development Agency.

The long-term support will enable youths to structure and sustain long-term activities as well as contribute to the organisation’s operating and running costs.
