More than 100 New Year’s babies across Gauteng hospitals
JOHANNESBURG – Newly born babies usher in new beginnings for the province.
As the ticking clock approached the first few seconds of 2017, it signalled that the race was on for expectant mothers to give birth to the first baby of the New Year at Gauteng hospitals. According to the Spokesperson for the Gauteng Department of Health, Steve Mabona, Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital delivered the first baby of the year at 00:01.
Mabona said overall, 120 babies have been born at various facilities in Gauteng on this first day of 2017. Gauteng Health MEC Qedani Mahlangu congratulated all the mothers and said parents should take care of their babies
“We are very excited to have delivered about 120 babies (62 girls and 58), at noon, there can be no better way of beginning a new year than bringing a new life on this earth, we wish them a long and healthy life and remember to take good care of your babies and ensure that they receive the necessary immunizations available at our health facilities to prevent ailments affecting mostly children,” Mahlangu said.
The MEC also took the opportunity to thank all the employees for ensuring that the delivery of quality healthcare in the province is maintained during the festive season especially on public holidays.
“I really appreciate the efforts of all healthcare workers during this festive, while others are home resting, they are hard at work and ensuring that lives are saved. ”
By midday on New Year’s Day:
- Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital delivered 30 babies ,19 girls and 08 boys. One set of twins and triplets. The first baby was born at 00:01
- Thelle Mogoerane Hospital delivered 9 babies, 7 girls and 2 Boys.
- Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital delivered 8 babies 5 girls and 3 boys.
4. Tembisa Hospital delivered 8 babies, 2 girls and 6 boys.
