Gun-brandishing man shot dead at Phase One flats

ALEXANDRA – A man was shot dead in the early hours of 4 December and his firearm stolen.

A man suspected of brandishing a firearm at a local drinking spot was followed by criminals who apparently wanted his gun and was later shot dead next to the flats in Phase One, Alexandra.

According to eyewitnesses, this happened at about 4am on 4 December.

The suspects are said to have followed the man and a shootout ensued outside the flats. The man, aged between 30 and 39, lived with his wife and their two children aged 11 and three in the shacks just behind the flats.

It is alleged that the victim is said to have realised he was being followed and opened fire first, but missed. The unknown number of suspects, who were also armed, allegedly returned fire and fatally wounded the man. They then grabbed the victim’s firearm and fled the scene.

At the time of going to press, the spokesperson for Alex Police Station, Captain Alli Kodisang was trying to verify the shooting but called on anyone with information on the incident to come forward.
