Truck hijackers wanted

ALEXANDRA – Manhunt on for suspects who hijacked a truck carrying half a million rand of alcohol.

Police are on a manhunt for three suspects who dressed as police traffic officers and allegedly hijacked a truck containing alcohol valued at half a million rand.

The incident happened on Vincent Tshabalala Road off-ramp at 8.30am on 26 October.

Spokesperson for Alexandra Police Station, Captain Allie Kodisang said the truck driver with three crew members were allegedly stopped by two suspects dressed in full traffic officer uniforms.

The suspects allegedly parked a white VW Jetta on the side of the road and got out, while a third remained in the vehicle.

One of the two suspects approached the truck from the driver’s side and allegedly demanded the driver’s licence while the other approached from the passenger’s side and pointed a firearm at the crew. He ordered them out of the truck and into the suspects’ parked vehicle.

The suspect on the driver’s side got into the truck loaded with nine pallets of alcohol valued at R500 000 and drove onto the highway and then joined the M1 towards Pretoria.

The other two suspects followed the truck in the vehicle with the hostages, who they allegedly ordered lie to face down. The suspects asked the victim’s about the truck’s tracker system and told them they would drop them at the Mabopane Police Station, however, they dropped them in Clayville before disappearing.

The truck and its contents have not been found.
